Registered Chapter Benefits

Registered Sorority & Fraternity Chapter Benefits

The University of Kansas Sorority and Fraternity community has rich history and unique opportunities for chapters which are registered student organizations and participate in one of the four umbrella councils: Interfraternity Council (IFC), Multicultural Greek Council (MGC), National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC), and Panhellenic Association (PHA). Registered student organizations (RSO), including sororities and fraternities, have chosen to comply with university guidelines and policies, the Code of Student Rights and Responsibilities,  and Sorority and Fraternity Life (SFL) risk management guidelines and best practices.  SFL staff support these chapters and their stakeholders to help each continue to improve and excel.

Unregistered Sorority and Fraternity Chapters

There are chapters that have chosen not to comply with university RSO guidelines and policies, the Code of Student Rights and Responsibilities, and SFL risk management guidelines and best practices. These chapters are considered unregistered or unaffiliated chapters.

Given their proximity to campus, housing structures, and recruitment efforts, these organizations may appear as though they are affiliated with the University of Kansas; however, they have elected not to be registered by the university. SFL staff do not supervise, support or advise unregistered chapters. Individual members of unregistered chapters receive the same benefits available to all KU students and are subject to the Code of Student Rights and Responsibilities. The university is limited in its ability to respond to and discipline unregistered chapters for alleged conduct violations. Students and community members who are concerned about the conduct of unregistered chapters should report these concerns to the chapter’s national organization.

For chapters currently not suspended for conduct violations, we welcome the opportunity to engage in the re-registration process.
